About the event

Lydden Temple Ewell is one of the best sites in the Dover area for chalk downland and the array of butterflies this brings.

On this guided walk with the Area Warden for the East Kent Downland you'll discover the history of Lydden Temple Ewell, how it is managed now, and why it is such an important habitat for butterflies.

The weather will have an impact on the species spotted, but there is a good chance of seeing chalk-hill blue, common blue and small heath butterflies. Your knowledgeable guide will take you to the best spots and explain all about their life cycles and characteristics. This tour group will be kept very small to give you the best chance of sightings.

This safari is aimed at an adult audience, 14-17 year olds may attend with an accompanying adult over 18. Hoping to bring the children? Family Wildlife Watch Safaris are available during school holidays, see https://www.kentwildlifetrust.org.uk/safaris for availability.

This safari will last approximately 1.5 hours and most of the time will be spent walking or standing. The route will be mostly on chalk grassland which can be very slippery and includes some hilly terrain. Ensure you wear sturdy footwear (during periods of wet weather waterproof footwear is advisable) and clothing suitable for the weather conditions.

The entrance to Lydden Temple Ewell Reserve can be found off London Road in the village of Temple Ewell, behind the George & Dragon pub. There is a public car park behind the pub. What 3 Words location for parking: https://w3w.co/walks.horses.movie
