Water pipeline upgrade to prevent bursts near Faversham

A £102,000 water main upgrade near Oare Marshes nature reserve will reduce the number of bursts which can disrupt supplies to homes in the area.

South East Water’s work to replace an old 750 metre stretch of pipeline along Church Road, Oare, will begin on Monday 24 November taking up to 15 weeks to complete.

Chris Love, Delivery Manager at South East Water, said: “The safety of the public and our contractor is of paramount importance while we upgrade this water main.

“As a result we will be closing Church Road at Harty Ferry Cottages to through traffic for the duration of the work, which also means there will be no access to Oare Marshes reserve car park.

“We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause users of the nature reserve, however we hope they understand the important work we need to undertake to ensure nearby residents receive reliable tap water supplies.”

Kevin Duvall, Swale Area Warden at Kent Wildlife Trust, said: “We have been working with South East Water to ensure that as many people as possible are aware that Oare Marshes car park will be closed while this work takes place.

“Access to our nearby South Swale nature reserve near Seasalter will be unaffected throughout the winter months and here you will be able to view a variety of waders and wildfowl, including wigeon and Brent geese, amongst the mudflats and grassland.”

This water main upgrade forms part of South East Water’s five year programme in which it is investing £390 million to ensure clean, safe water continues to be delivered to all its customers.
