MyWilderKent invites people across the county to discover, record and celebrate the wildlife on their doorstep, and it's now open to the public for first time.
A free new app from Kent Wildlife Trust is helping people across the county take meaningful action for nature, whatever their experience, lifestyle, or garden size.
MyWilderKent is a digital community platform where users can discover wildlife on their doorstep, log sightings, complete nature actions, and connect with a growing community of like-minded people. Launched in beta last September - road-tested and shaped by Trust members and community feedback - the app is now open to the public for the first time.
The response so far has been impressive. More than 827 people have already taken part in collective activities, pledging or completing 351 actions for nature, with over 1085 square metres of space now being managed for wildlife across Kent.
Dean Ashby, Digital Development Manager at Kent Wildlife Trust, describes the app as a digital bridge between people and the natural world. "We wanted to build something that meets people where they are, whether that's creating a wildlife-friendly window box or cultivating a half-acre meadow in the countryside, there’s a place for you here."
At the centre of the platform is the Discover page, a curated, seasonal guide to getting outside and doing something good for nature. For example, users can join the UK Butterfly Monitoring Scheme between April and September, counting butterflies along local routes and contributing to conservation data. Those who prefer to start closer to home can browse nearly 200 different nature actions, from reducing household water usage to responsibly feeding garden birds.
A system of badges, impact levels and rewards helps users track their journey and stay motivated, while the action map offers a snapshot of what communities across Kent are already achieving.
The app is already evolving. Over the coming year, the Wilder Kent Awards - the Trust's scheme recognising schools, community groups, businesses and local areas taking action for nature - will be integrated directly into the platform. Nature training courses and new ways to connect with fellow users are also in development.
Now’s a perfect time to start planning out your 2026 nature journey, so why not head to mywilderkent.app, install the app and get started in a community making Kent Wilder!
