There are so many birds around at West Blean in the winter months! Come and learn all about them and how to identify them.

This is the perfect event for young nature enthusiasts and aspiring conservationists!

You'll join our knowledgeable team for a masterclass in bird identification, using ID guides to learn about visual clues and the Merlin app to start recognising some common calls and songs.

Then, we'll head out into the Ranger Station gardens and woodland for a bird-themed trail. We'll stop along the way to work together and identify any species we spot enjoying this special habitat.

After the walk we'll have a sit down around a campfire to warm up, and you'll be able to ask any questions you have about what you've learnt. We'll also share some tips about bird watching at home if you'd like to continue with the hobby and see which species live in your neighbourhood!

This event will mostly take place outdoors, so please ensure everyone is wearing practical, comfortable clothing suitable for the day's weather conditions. Wellies are advisable as it may be muddy.

We go ahead in most weathers, but extreme wind or rain may mean this event needs to be amended or postponed for safety reasons. In this situation, you will be contacted as soon as possible with further information.

Children must be supervised at all times by their accompanying adult. Everyone is welcome, but this event is most suited to children over 5. We find people often like to bring large groups to these events, so to help with capacity and ensure as many children as possible can attend we charge a small amount for any adults attending above one per child.

Charges apply to use the car park (card/app payments only).
