Coastal Guardians

Location: Kent Coast, Kent
We're looking for new volunteers to get involved with our Guardians of The Deep project along stretches of our coastline.

Position details

Any Day

Join our Guardians of the Deep project as Coastal Guardians; our eyes and ears of the Kent coastline in the Medway and Swale Estuaries, the Isle of Sheppey and from Deal Pier to Dungeness. If you are a regular visitor to these parts of Kent’s coastline, or looking for a good reason to visit the coast more often, you can help make a big difference.

Coastal Guardians will help with recording and reporting wildlife sightings, take part in beach cleans and other seaside activities, as well as reporting strandings, pollution incidents and illegal activities to the relevant authorities.

Don’t worry if you think you don’t know enough about coastal and marine wildlife. Guardians will be given full training, learning how to ID coastal birds and other coastal plants and animals, recognise illegal activities, and local Project Officers will be on hand to give advice and support in the initial stages of the project, and we hope our trained volunteers will continue their work in the future. There will be opportunities for training for those who want to improve their skills further.

Coastal Guardians will be able to stay connected to one another using a special facebook group and through regular communication with our Project Officers. We are looking for  individuals and groups to become Coastal Guardians, who are able to spend a minimum of 2 hours per month helping in this way.

If you enjoy being on the beach or coastal paths, and want to get more involved with your local area, this is the role for you.
