What we're calling for
The landmark 2023 State of Nature Report has shown that despite being classified as one of the world’s most nature-depleted countries in the world – nature is still in decline.
The wildlife we have is incredible, with many species found nowhere else on Earth. But decades of pollution and habitat loss have destroyed the places they call home and driven wildlife into chronic decline. The impacts of climate change are becoming more visible and nature, wildlife and people are suffering. Shockingly, 1 in 7 species in the UK is now at risk of extinction. These findings are reflected in Kent too, with our own 2021 State of Nature in Kent report showing that 372 species are under threat of extinction, 79% rivers are impacted by pollution and land under conservation management actually declined by 14,000 hectares in 2021. Our mission is to increase wildlife abundance and climate resilience across 30% of Kent's land and sea but we can't do it alone, we need your help to create a #WilderKent.
Kent Wildlife Trust, alongside leading wildlife organisations, are calling upon all political parties to drive the change needed and to commit to a plan that finally delivers 30 by 30 promises and works towards reversing these trends. Their policies must be targeted towards species recovery, addressing water pollution, funding wildlife-friendly farming, enabling healthy communities, and tackling climate change. We want these asks to ensure all parties stand on a platform with nature’s recovery at its heart and we are asking communities, organisations, businesses and individuals to share this message and help make it clear that nature must be a priority for Kent and the UK.

It has never been more evident that people care more about the state of their natural environment than ever before. With a general election on the horizon, it’s time politicians heard that message. Kent Wildlife Trust have already been working in many of these areas. Find out more about our asks, our work and how you can help to create a Wilder Kent below.

We are asking all parties to...
Bring back the UK’s lost wildlife
Immense pressure from decades of pollution and habitat loss has driven wildlife into catastrophic decline.
End river pollution and water scarcity
The UK is ranked as one of the worst countries in Europe for water quality, with pollution beyond legal limits caused by a toxic cocktail of sewage and agricultural pollution.
Fund wildlife-friendly farming
By supporting farmers to shift towards regenerative, nature-friendly methods, farming has huge potential to deliver a green rural renewal.
Enable healthy communities
More than one-third of the population - nearly 9.5 million households in England – are unable to access green places near their home.
Tackle the climate emergency
Climate change is driving nature’s decline, and the loss of wildlife and wild places leaves us ill-equipped to reduce carbon emissions and adapt to change.
Let people know you're voting for nature
Download any of our "I'm voting for nature" posters below and put them up everywhere you can to spread awareness and let politicians of all parties know, we won't accept a government that isn't ready to tackle the nature and climate crisis.
