Blue Mentor Jenny Luddington sat with a Guide working on a project

Folkestone Shed Urban Wilderness project

Folkestone Shed Urban Wilderness project:

The Shed Urban Wilderness is a community project based in Folkestone, which aims to create a space where both nature and people can coexist, working to transform a disused former plot of Network Rail land, into a pleasant, ecologically-sound community space. Jenny has been working with a group of young people to create social action projects which will have positive impacts on local blue spaces. With Jenny's support, the group are working on a range of nature based activities, including blog writing.

Blue Influencer Project:

Jenny and her Blue Influencers at the Folkestone Urban Shed have secured their £560 grant and will be using this to revitalise the small wildlife pond on site, providing an important habitat and water source for a range of urban wildlife. To monitor and record the wildlife that visits the site, the group also intend to put some of their grant towards a wildlife camera.

During June, the group carried out a range of activities for 30 Days Wild, including improving their bug hotels on site and creating edible wormery cupcakes.

The young people have also worked on a collaborative blogs with Kent Wildlife Trust.
