Growing Confidence, One Adventure at a Time: Aspen II
Every Blue Influencers journey is different, and Aspen 2 proved that progress isn't always measured by how quickly you get somewhere.
Working with young people with additional learning needs, the project focused on helping participants explore nature at their own pace while discovering new interests, building confidence and finding their voices.
From conservation about cyanotypes, angling and wellbeing, young people shaped the programme around the activities that mattered most to them. Rather than following a fixed plan, they became co-designers of their own environmental journey.
One highlight was a visit to Samphire Hoe, where students explored the landscape while learning how people have relied on this special place for thousands of years. History, wildlife and hands-on learning came together to show that nature has always played an important role in our lives.
The group also worked with visiting artists, opening doors to creative ways of connecting with the natural world. Although plans for a collaborative cyanotype quilt celebrating chalk grassland flowers couldn't be completed, the conversations and ideas sparked plenty of imagination for future projects.
The project created meaningful opportunities for young people to experience nature, contribute their ideas and explore practical conservation in ways that reflected their individual strengths.
Aspen II creating a space where curiosity can grow—and Aspen 2 did exactly that.
