Write to your MP

Even if you can’t commit to meeting your MP, you can still make a difference telling them you that you care about a strong Environment Act.

Writing your letter

  • Include your name and address. Your MP needs to know you are a genuine constituent, and to have an address to send a reply to.
  • You can use the template here as a starting point but try to tell your MP about yourself and why you care about wildlife. The more you add your personal touch, the more likely your MP is to listen.
  • Try to be as succinct as possible.

Template letter

Dear               MP,

I am writing to you because I want you to speak up for wildlife.

Wildlife in Kent is in trouble – too many species are in decline and at risk of extinction. Habitats are being lost, damaged and fragmented at a terrifying rate, and there isn’t enough space or resources for wildlife to survive.

The Environment Bill is a chance to change this. For the first time in 20 years, we have the opportunity to take ambitious steps to create a wilder nation for future generations.

Our new Environment Act needs to ensure that politicians are answerable to meaningful targets for nature’s recovery. It needs to set in place new legal requirements to create a joined-up ‘Nature Recovery Network’ that will allow wildlife to move more freely around our increasingly fragmented landscape. And we need our new law to put in place a strong, independent watchdog that can challenge decisions that are damaging to nature.

[You can write a short paragraph here explaining why it’s important to you that wildlife is properly protected - are you worried about the loss of green areas or animals near you? Do you want Kent to be a wilder place?]

Please help create a wilder future for Kent and Britain by backing an ambitious Environment Act. I urge you to talk to other people in your party and write to your party leader too, so they know how important it is that we properly protect wildlife and encourage its recovery.

Yours sincerely,

Your name & Address

NB: It’s important that you include your full postal address in anything you write to your MP so they know you live in their constituency.
