We provide children, young people and adults with a wide range of practical, enjoyable and high-quality learning experiences through our Education programmes that will connect them with nature and help them discover the wild world around us.

Our Tutors will lead your group for the whole of your visit, providing all the equipment and materials that are required for the different activities. We only ask that you bring children with the right clothes and smiling faces and a number of supportive grown-ups - however, we do give them back to you for lunch!

The teacher was extremely knowledgeable and kept the children engaged throughout. The facts they learned were pitched at an appropriately high level and we are very grateful to the site for making our trip so worthwhile and enjoyable.

Outdoor learning with Kent Wildlife Trust

Visits to our education centres are easy to organise and offer a safe and enriching outdoors environment for your students to learn in. Our education centres give you a wide range of choice of wildlife and nature-based activities. All of our activities are linked to the curriculum and offer fun and interactive ways of bringing learning to life.

Organising your visit

For a full day visit for one or two classes, you will need to select two activities from the below options. If you are bringing three classes, then please select three activities; four activities for four classes.

As an outdoor learning provider, we strive to deliver as much of our learning outdoors as possible, including making use of our outdoor teaching shelters. However, we do also have indoor classroom environments which can be used during winter months to deliver workshops such as the Birds of Prey Discovery Lab.

Tyland barn pond dipping

Tyland Barn

Located in the centre of the County, the nature park at Tyland Barn has been specially designed to represent - in miniature - the diverse range of habitats to be found in Kent. With a large pond, meadow, chalk bank, hedge, scrub and even a shingle beach, the site is a very flexible location for a range of fascinating studies. Visitors to Tyland Barn can enjoy the benefits of an indoor classroom, external teaching and picnic shelter, cafe and toilet facilities. Coaches can drop off groups inside the grounds, with space to park close by.

Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve

This wonderful site consists of five stunning lakes, a mixture of habitats including ponds, seasonally flooded pools, reedbed and woodland. A spectacular site for birds, the wetland and woodland habitats also support a diverse community of plants, fungi and animals. Of particular interest for visiting groups is the tranquil Elemental Garden, where much of the teaching for younger groups takes place, and there are additional teaching areas within the Visitor Centre. The Centre itself houses a range of engaging wildlife displays and touch tables. The site has toilet facilities and a small tea bar. Coaches can drop off groups outside the visitor centre, no coach parking is currently available.

If you would like more information on what we can offer at Blean, please contact the team on [email protected] Please note, we have no coach parking at Blean and can only welcome groups visiting by minibus or car.

Wilder kent awards 2023 winners grouped together holding their certificates

Wilder Kent Awards

The natural world isn't just something for us to enjoy; it sustains us. The decline of nature puts our very survival and prosperity under threat. It doesn't have to be like this; together we can create a Wilder Kent. The Wilder Kent Awards is a scheme set up to recognise and reward the work schools and community groups are doing in helping us create a #WilderKent. By taking positive actions to restore nature, they are helping to create a more climate-resilient county and provide a home for wildlife. Their action benefits us locally and helps tackle the global environmental threats we all face.
