Livestock Checker update - September 2022

Highlights for this year

The Livestock checking volunteers are now our biggest group of volunteers standing at 197 actively involved in our daily welfare checks.

So far this year we have trained 50 new volunteers, with a further 9 booked onto training (completed probably before you receive this) and a further 10 just starting the process of choosing sites and days of the week.

In the last two years we have gone from an average of 50% volunteer site cover to almost 90%, despite there now being more sites grazed by KWT animals than ever before.

This huge network of volunteers now have a wealth of experience amongst them and the reporting of injury, illness and behaviour change is better than it has ever been. We can be truly proud of the welfare standards we have for our animals thanks to you guys.

The series of picnics run this summer gave volunteers the chance to meet others who do the same job, sometimes for the first time, even when working on the same reserve. Those who attended have given some lovely feedback, and it would be great to see more of you out in person next year when we run them again. If you are particularly keen that we should visit your site as part of the picnic rounds next year, showing off what the animals under your watch have achieved, please drop us a line.
