Blue Bell Hill

Whether standing above the clouds on a winters morning or watching the last rays of sun striking reds, purple and gold across the valley there is always something fantastic about this place.

Quite possibly the loftiest nature reserve on the county, having uninterrupted panaromic views across the Weald. This site lies adjacent to the Trust's Burham Down Reserve and continues the terrain of chalk grassland, scrub and woodland found there.

There is a diverse number of plant species at the site, many of which are typical of the nationally important chalk grassland habitat. These include salad burnet, bird's foot trefoil, fairy flax, pyramidal orchid, bee orchid, quaking grass, hairy violet and bulbous buttercup.

This rich plantlife supports a variety of specialist insects including characteristic chalk downland butterflies such as chalk hill blue and brown argus.
