Wild About Garden Advisors

Advisor Visit

We're looking for volunteers to join our team of Wild About Garden Advisors across the county to visit homes and community organisations who have entered our unique award scheme.

About the role

We're looking for keen gardeners who are willing to learn about wildlife friendly gardening and are happy to visit entrants to our Wild About Gardens Awards.

You'll be assessing the gardens based on our guidelines and your knowledge and you'll work alongside a trained mentor until you both feel comfortable with you carrying out visits on your own.  Your work will have a huge impact on making Kent a great place for wildlife, helping others to create green spaces throughout the county.

How much time does it require?

You'll choose the area you will cover for your visits, how many you can carry out and you will arrange visits at your and the garden owners' convenience.  With preparation, garden visit, and completing reports, we estimate each visit taking around half a day.

We will ask you to attend an informal get together to provide you with further information about the role and the programme, and  a full day training session with our Wild About Gardens team.

Who are we looking for

You must be interested in wildlife and gardening and willing to learn more.  Excellent communication skills and confidence in talking to new people is essential for this role.

We provide training opportunities throughout the year, and can reimburse reasonable travel expenses for volunteers.

You must have access to a car to carry out visits, a mobile phone and the ability to complete reports and send them in via email.

How to apply

Please complete the application form below and return this to volunteering@kentwildlife.org.uk and we'll be in contact to discuss the next steps in joining our team.
