Kent Wildlife Trust and Wildwood launched a flagship wilding project called “Wilder Blean” funded by players of People’s Postcode Lottery. The project will promote stronger habitats by restoring natural processes that are able to withstand the current environmental crisis and species decline, and in the long run, reverse it.

Why do we need you?

Help our Wilder Blean team to walk along existing butterfly survey routes, recording Butterflies at West Blean and Thornden Woods. 
Butterfly transect surveys are an extremely important method of robustly measuring changes in butterfly populations. Some of the transects at West Blean and Thornden Woods have been carried out for over 40 years giving a fantastic amount of data on how our management of the woods is affecting butterflies. We will need your help walking these transects on a weekly basis or sharing a transect with someone else and identifying butterfly species.

Experience and skills needed

Essential: Some butterfly identification skills. Flexibility to carry out surveys when the weather is good.

Desirable: West Blean and Thornden Woods are in a rural location and therefore this position is most suited to someone who lives or works close to the reserve or has access to a car.
