Gardening for Wildlife: Care and Food

About the event

Our gardens are becoming wildlife havens.  On this course you will learn about two of the major principles of improving a garden for wildlife – how to provide food for a range of animals and how to care for the wildlife in your garden.

After an introduction to the subjects of food and care in the garden, we will have a look around the wildlife friendly Farmhouse Garden at Tyland Barn. We will then return to the training room, to look into these features in more detail.

It is expected that by the end of the session you will understand:

• The different sorts of foods that insects, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals eat
• How to provide a diverse food supply in your garden
• How different styles and sizes of gardens can support wildlife
• The ways in which garden chemicals can affect wildlife
• Alternatives to chemicals in the garden
• Ways to avoid harming wildlife in your garden; lawns, pond and flower beds

Suitable for beginners and anyone with a general interest in gardening for wildlife.
