Wildlife Gardening Awards
An extraordinary 2,000 species of plants and animals can be found in the average garden, from the tiniest money spider to the nationally rare hedgehog and red listed song thrush.
The award scheme provides advice on a range of ideas to help you attract wildlife into your garden and rewards those with wildlife-friendly gardens including:
- private individuals
- community groups
- schools
- businesses
Wildlife may find it difficult in such a small space to adapt to the relatively sudden changes brought on by climate change or building developments. There are approx. 16 million gardens in the UK, and by their close proximity to each other, could act as Britain's biggest nature reserve! Your garden could be part of a network that provides a stepping stone or corridor for wildlife to move through - a Living Landscape, that provides a natural life support system for wildlife and people.
However, like nature reserves, they need to be managed in the right way. Wildlife Gardening Awards are presented each autumn to entrants at ceremonies throughout the county.
Entering the scheme every year provides evidence to local authorities that you think wildlife is important and lets you celebrate your success and, hopefully, track your progress.
