Our Work
The aim of the Romney Marshes Living Landscape Partnership is to work with local people and organisations to deliver an outstanding natural environment in the area and, in doing so, not only to deliver major benefits to wildlife, but to maintain and enhance sustainable tourism, support the farming economy, and involve and engage local communities. Our vision is of a sustainable future for wildlife and people, continuing the already ancient partnership between human activity and natural processes.
Our key objectives are to:
Restore and enhance existing protected sites and wildlife habitats to create a large and connected ‘core area’ of habitat through effective nature conservation management where physical, hydrological and ecological processes can act in a natural way.
Encourage and support landowners and farmers to manage the land outside protected areas in a sustainable and wildlife-friendly manner and where possible, incorporate targeted habitat restoration, such as the recreation of high quality grassland and the enhancement of water courses, or create wildlife friendly features, to recreate key links and stepping-stones between core areas.
Increase the understanding of the natural and cultural heritage of the area through interpretation and promotion and to improve and manage access to allow visitors to enjoy and appreciate the unique wildlife of the area whilst protecting the area’s sensitive biodiversity.
Identify and evaluate the historic development of the landscape between Hastings and Hythe and use this information to inform proposals for restoration, enhancement and management of both the natural and cultural heritage.
Exploit the links between nature conservation, sustainable land management and green tourism, in order to support farmers, local businesses and environmentally-friendly business activities.
Support and promote the marine and coastal heritage, economy and wildlife of the project area.
