Fackenden Down

OS Map 188 TQ 531605
Post code: TN14 7RS

A west and south-west facing slope of the North Downs on the eastern side of the Darent Valley.

The majority of the area is high quality chalk grassland, with areas of scrub and woodland. The grassland supports fragrant, pyramidal and man orchids, together with characteristic downland insect species, especially butterflies such as brown argus, common blue and dark green fritillary.

Wildlife update

We have at last been able to arrange for 26 sheep from a local farmer on Ashdown Forest to graze both Fackenden Down and Cowden Pound reserves. Sheep will be grazing Fackenden Down over winter.
