Jeffery Harrison Visitor Centre, Sevenoaks - Overview

The Visitor Centre houses displays illustrating the prehistory and history of the site, the creation of the nature reserve, its habitats and the wildlife which they support. There are displays of stuffed birds in dioramas of local habitats as well as touch tables where visitors can handle all sorts of 'treasures' such as nests, feathers and thirty-thousand year old mammoth teeth.

March to end of October, Saturday to Wednesday, 10am - 5pm.
November to 25th March, Wednesday, Saturday & Sunday, 10am - 4pm.
Closed 24th December, re-opens 2nd January 2010 

Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve

The site houses a large wetland environment home to a wide range of wildlife. There is a nature trail for which a leaflet is available. See reserve page for more information.

Talk: Water voles the fall and ...?
Friday 12th March, 7.30pm - 10.00pm
Talk by expert Jon Bramley looking at the current plights and future of this attractive mammal both generally and at the Sevenoaks Reserve. £3 per adults, £1 per child including refreshments.

Talk: Scottish Wildlife our interests and memoirs
Monday 29th March, 2.00pm
A talk by Peter and Pauline Heathcote. £2 per person including refreshments.

Walk with a warden
Sunday 4th April, 10.30am - 12.30pm
Join one of the reserve wardens for a walk around the nature trails. Plus learn about tree identification and uses of wood through recent history. £4 per adult, £2 per child, booking is essential on 01732 456407.

Special Pond Dipping Session
Wednesday 7 April 2010, 10am - 12noon & 1pm - 3pm
Where children can investigate amazing creatures for themselves. Booking essential. Telephone Tyland Barn on 01622 662012 Entry £2 per child.

Springwatch walk at Sevenoaks
Saturday 17th April, 10.00am - 12noon
We promise an informative and enjoyable walk as spring arrives at the reserve. Stout shoes and appropriate clothing should be worn as it may be muddy underfoot. For booking contact David Nimmo on 01689 828831. £3 per adult, £1 per child including refreshments.

Dawn Chorus Walk
Sunday 18th April, 5.30am - 7.30am
An early bird catches the worm, and an early riser catches the best of the birdsong! Join us and the birds for an early stroll around the reserve and hear what some of the best musicians have to offer! £4 per adult, £2 per child. Booking is essential on 01732 456407.

Talk: 'Islands'
Monday 19th April, 7.30pm - 10.00pm
Prof R J Berry will talk on his recently published book, which focuses on the distinct flora and fauna that inhabit the islands surrounding the Uk. £2 incuding refreshments. Contact Joan Medill on 01732 453880.

AGM abd Talk: The Woodland Year
Monday 10th May, 7.00pm - 10.00pm
Fred Booth, who is well known for his fascinating talks has kindly agreed to give this talk at our AGM. Fred's illustrated talk will cover a year in the life of the woodland and will link his vast knowledge of the Sevenoaks reserve. Light refreshments servec. Free event but donations are welcome.

Key site

For migrant birds in spring and autumn, wetland plants and dragonflies in summer. In winter months a host of wildfowl inhabit the site.

The visitor centre is open to the public: 

Year round (except over the Christmas period) on Wednesdays and at weekends from 10am till 5pm
(or dusk, whichever is earlier) .
