Wattle Wood

Location: OS Map OS Map 189 TQ 873354: Near Tenterden
Post code: TN30 6TH

Less than a hectare of woodland ½ mile (0.8 km) west of St Michael’s, Tenterden, within a larger wet woodland complex.

The wood is ancient coppice-with-standards. Oak appears mainly as standards, with hornbeam and sweet chestnut as the main coppice species. Alder and willow are also coppiced in the wetter areas. Recent coppicing has encouraged a diversity of flora and fauna. Characteristic species such as early-purple orchid are common. Dormice have been seen on the reserve and probably breed there. Access is via a public footpath with stiles.
