Around 11 hectares of semi-improved neutral grassland, a small stream and pond, and areas of scrub and mature woodland.
The reserve is managed as part of an organic livestock farm in partnership with local farmers.
There is a sizeable margin of unimproved neutral grassland with anthills and a rich mixture of grasses and herbs such as pepper saxifrage, black knapweed and bird’s-foot-trefoil. While a reasonable diversity of plants including adder’s-tongue occurs in some of the inner semi-improved fields. Woodland and scrub communities on the north of the site include alder, hornbeam, oak and hazel, with hawthorn and blackthorn.
Directions
By Road:
From the A28 in Tenterden turn west into Turner’s Avenue, right into Haffenden Rd and left into Drury Rd. Please park carefully in the street to avoid disturbing residents. There is a track from here that leads over a disused railway line to the reserve. Way-marked paths lead around the perimeter of the reserve.
Public Transport:
Bus 12/Maidstone, 297/Ashford & Tunbridge Wells to Tenterden (¼ mi/0.4 km).

Key site for
- For nesting birds such as warblers , and insect eating birds such as insects and birds such as woodpeckers, nuthatches and treecreepers
- Plant life: The soil is mostly fairly acid, as shown by the carpets of bluebells and patches of heather, but more alkaline elsewhere, with characteristic species such as spurge laurel, sanicle and common spotted-orchid present across the site.
- Notable also for fungi in Autumn months.
