Parsonage Wood

Location: OS Map 188 TQ 797329: Near Beneden (RESTRICTED ACCESS)
Post code: TN17 4LD

About nine hectares of woodland 1½ miles (2.4 km) west of Benenden.

The reserve sits within an area of pasture and orchard, but is only accessible with prior arrangement through the reserve warden if you visit the site by car.The wood is mixed and has a fairly sparse understorey due to a dense canopy. In the spring, however, the wood teems with bluebell, primrose and golden saxifrage. Within the steep wooded valleys, humid conditions are ideal for mosses, liverworts and many species of fern, including the hay-scented buckler-fern. Most of the common woodland birds have been recorded here, including woodcock, green woodpecker, treecreeper, nuthatch and little owl. There are waymarked paths with steps.
