High Weald

Kent Wildlife Trust manages five reserves within this region of the county of Kent.



Cowden Pound Pastures

A small valley with 6 hectares of marshy grassland, unimproved neutral grassland and ancient woodland, 1½ miles (2.4 km) south of Edenbridge.

 

Ivy Hatch

OS Map 188 TQ 587547 : Nr Borough Green

At less than a hectare of wet woodland, this is one of the Trust’s smallest reserves, about ½ mile (0.8 km) north of Ivy Hatch, near Ightham.

 

The Gill

Location: OS Map 188 TQ 728385: Nr Goudhurst (RESTRICTED ACCESS)

The Gill is 11 hectares of ancient woodland one mile(1.6 km) from Goudhurst.

 

Brenchley Wood

The original Brenchley Wood Nature Reserve covers about 8 hectares of relic High Weald woodland between Brenchley and Pembury.  A recent purchase of part of the adjoining Foxhole Wood has extended the reserve by five and a half hectares.

 

Collingwood

Location: OS Map 188 TQ 760292: Near Hawkhurst

Collingwood is a small woodland sanctuary of  3 hectares, 1 mile (1.6 km) south of Hawkhurst.

 

Parsonage Wood

Location: OS Map 188 TQ 797329: Near Beneden (RESTRICTED ACCESS)

About nine hectares of woodland 1½ miles (2.4 km) west of Benenden.

 

Bough Beech Reserve

O.S Map 188 TQ 496494: Nr Edenbridge

The reserve covers approximately 45 hectares of the 127 hectare, 2,400 million gallon capacity reservoir, which stores drinking water drawn from the River Eden.

 

Wattle Wood

Location: OS Map OS Map 189 TQ 873354: Near Tenterden

Less than a hectare of woodland ½ mile (0.8 km) west of St Michael’s, Tenterden, within a larger wet woodland complex.
