Mapping a Living Landscape

Biodiversity Opportunity Areas 2009.jpg

Together with many other conservation experts, Kent Wildlife Trust has put together a map that identifies the areas in which we should target action for biodiversity, in order to restore and reconnect wildlife and produce a network of habitats that will give wildlife the opportunity to adapt to climate change. This network of Biodiversity Opportunity Areas not only stretches across Kent but links to that of other counties and forms the spatial expression of the South East England Biodiversity strategy.

The Kent Biodiversity Action Plan sets out what needs to be achieved in order to safeguard a future for biodiversity. The Kent Biodiversity Action Plan Partnership has endorsed the detailed network of Biodiversity Opportunity Areas for Kent. Kent Biodiversity Action Plan - BOA.

The South East England biodiversity strategy provides a framework for the delivery of biodiversity targets that guide and support all those who have an impact on biodiversity in the region and identifies the regional priority areas of opportunity for restoration and creation of BAP habitats. The South East Plan

Fighting the government's proposals

The Government has recently published the changes it wants to see in the South East Plan – the document which will shape the future of the South East region over the next twenty years. We were shocked to see that these proposed changes would not just increase the level of environmental damage associated with the Plan, but would also substantially lower the quality of life of the region’s population.

Climate Watch

Stop Climate Chaos

Climate change poses the single greatest threat to wildlife in Kent and throughout the world. That is why the Wildlife Trusts are part of the coalition to Stop Climate Chaos, why we are promoting energy-saving lifestyles, and why we are working to find ways of protecting wildlife from the effects of global warming.

A Living Landscape for Kent

We want a living landscape, where the past diversity and abundance of wildlife have been restored to land and sea, where wild places are protected, recreated and reconnected to produce a robust and vibrant countryside, and where a rich, exciting and wild environment can be enjoyed by everyone.

Planning Campaign

New planning arrangements set out in the Planning Bill would threaten some of the county's most important wild areas.

The Trust's involvement in the planning process has enabled us to press for more environmentally-friendly development and get a better deal for wildlife, even in the case of major infrastructure projects. More information ...
