Visitor Centre Assistant: Catering & Visitor Experience

Salary: £15,263 to £20,296 pro rata

Closing date: Monday 19th February 2018

Part-time position supporting the Visitor Centre Manager at Tyland Barn, with experience in catering preferably gained in a public facing operation, and experience in delivering a fantastic visitor welcome. Experience of working in a public environment is essential, together with good communication skills.

The job: the post holder will have catering experience, preferably gained in a public facing environment. The post holder will help to deliver the catering offer to our visitors and staff, whilst ensuring that the visitor experience is maximised and the retail offer available to our visitors. With ambitions to deliver a better quality visitor environment with improvements in service, interpretation, standards and the catering offer, the post holder will have the experience to help develop the new offer at Tyland Barn.  This is an interesting and challenging opportunity to work at the centre of this busy charity and bring the work of Kent Wildlife Trust to a wider audience whilst helping to develop and deliver commercial income streams, with a particular focus on the catering offer.

This is a part-time position on an annualised contract averaging 14.71 hours per week, supporting the Visitor Centre Manager to ensure the Visitor Centre opens 7 days per week during peak trade, April to October. See job description for further details.

About you: 

  • experience of catering preferably gained in a public facing operation focussing on delivery of freshly made sandwiches and light lunches
  • experience in delivering a fantastic visitor welcome and attending the needs of the public
  • experience of working in a busy public environment
  • An interest in food trends/catering/menu development
  • experience of record keeping and the security of cash
  • up to date knowledge of Health and Safety legislation
  • ability to deal confidently with suppliers and the public by phone or face to face
  • good communication skills
