Outdoor Volunteering

We're always looking for more volunteers to join our teams on Reserves across the county. Find out here where we are working, when and how you can get involved.

We're always looking for volunteers to join our outdoor tasks throughout the county. You'll be working alongside our Reserve Wardens and a team of friendly volunteers helping us to manage our Reserves for wildlife. This is a great way in which to spend time outside, meet new people and make a real difference to wildlife. Our work is seasonal, with mainly monitoring and survey work taking place throughout the summer months, and our Reserve management work taking place between September and March.

The programmes of work for our Ecology Groups who carry out Habitat Surveys in landscape areas across Kent are now available for 2018.

Many of our Ecology Group surveys look at habitat condition. The condition of our reserves is fundamental to their ability to support wildlife – get the habitat right and you are much of the way there in terms of species conservation. Whether it is woodland, grassland, sand dune or fen, there are a selection of key plants and habitat features we look for, and anyone can help us with this regardless of experience. We make it easy with picture 'cheat sheets' and it’s a great way to start learning plant identification. As well as habitat surveys there are opportunities to get involved in surveys for water voles, counting some of Kent's rare orchids, looking for reptiles, monitoring butterflies and moths or learning to identify and survey bees with the making a buzz for the coast project

The dates of our activities are available to download  and you can use the table below to see what is happening across the county.  It's essential that you check the task list prior to attending and let the relevant Warden know you'll be joining us. You'll need to wear weather appropriate clothing, sturdy footwear and bring your lunch with you.  Those aged 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
