Botany Classes

We are now taking bookings for our 2018 Botany Evening Classes.

These botany classes will take place on Tuesday evenings at Tyland Barn, 6:30 – 8:30 for 10 weeks, commencing Tuesday 20th February 2018 until beginning of May. 

The cost will be £200 for the 10-week course.

Our Botany evening course is on how to identify and record plants, and what to do with botanical records.

It consists of 10 x 2-hour sessions on Tuesday evenings from 20th February 2018 (6.30pm-8.30 pm). The course will take place at our Tyland Barn Visitor Centre near Maidstone.

Please note that there are 11 dates currently listed to allow for a half term break to be confirmed.

 

Participants will learn how to confidently identify plants using keys, specimens and descriptions. They will learn how to use the BSBI database for recording and for testing their own knowledge and identification skills at home, then bring specimens into the lab for confirmation.

The tutor is Alex Lockton, who has twenty years’ experience working as a lecturer in ecology at Birmingham University and Manchester Metropolitan University, as co-ordinator of the Botanical Society of the British Isles, and as an ecological consultant. He is county recorder for Shropshire and author of The Flora and Vegetation of Shropshire (2015).
