Reserves management
The reserves teams activities centre on enhancing the wildlife potential of Kent and Medway through a network of high quality reserves.
Activities include:
- Professional, trained volunteer teams actively manage 3000 ha of woodland, grassland and coastal habitats for their wildlife importance. The reserves protect some of the rarest species and most fragile habitats in the country. Refer to the "Visit..." section of the website to locate reserves in your area.
- Three sites are National Nature Reserves, the highest accolade for a site and its management.
- The Trust supports Biodiversity Action Programmes through active habitat management aimed at threatened species, successful approved re-introductions, monitoring species and sites.
- In a ground-breaking initiative, Norwegian beaver have been deployed on a wetland site for a five-year habitat management trial. They are just part of the Trust's 350-strong flock of hardy grazing stock.
