'Volcano Island' Invaded by Volunteers

Last week, the intrepid volunteers of Kent Wildlife Trust’s Green Team rowed across to ‘Volcano Island’ - one of the many islands in Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve’s lakes - to carry out some essential habitat maintenance work.

Once ashore, a bonfire was established and ‘Volcano Island’ was soon living up to it’s name, as the volunteers helped to clear invasive trees to improve the scrubby habitat and benefit a range of species such as warblers.

The Trust’s Reserve Warden, Paul Glanfield, said: “The gang really enjoyed working on a more remote part of the site and the novelty of rowing to work. They did a great job!”

There are regular ‘green’ volunteer tasks in the Sevenoaks area on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays; so if you’d like to get involved, make friends and keep fit, please contact Paul Glanfield on 01732 456407 for more information.
