Nature lovers flock to first Wildlife Festival
Organisers of the inaugural Festival of Wildlife at Sevenoaks, which took place at the weekend, are delighted with the bumper turn out of over 2,000 visitors.
The premier event of Kent Wildlife Trust’s 50th anniversary year, sponsored by Belmont International, took place in the lakeside and woodland setting of the Trust’s Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve and Visitor Centre.
Visitors to the free event enjoyed a wealth of wildlife in their natural habitats. Activities included guided walks from wildlife experts, small mammal identification tours, mini-beast hunting, angling demonstrations, pond dipping, and wildlife photography sessions.
There were also demonstrations of spinning, chainsaw carving, willow weaving and displays from marine, mammal, bat and wildlife rescue groups. Live music from local folk bands added to the festive atmosphere.
Organiser, Amanda Hamley, said: “This was a rare opportunity for families and enthusiasts alike to appreciate the wonders of wildlife on their doorstep at one of Kent’s most beautiful nature reserves.
“We are delighted with the huge numbers that turned out - despite the uncertainty of the weather - and we look forward to making next year’s event even bigger and better.”
