'Absolutely fabulous' support for the wildlife of Kent

The county’s leading conservation charity, Kent Wildlife Trust, has secured the patronage of actress, Joanna Lumley OBE, for its 50th Anniversary in 2008.

The Chairman of the Trust, Fidelity Weston, said: “I am absolutely delighted that Joanna Lumley, who has a long association with Kent, will be our patron for the year.

“I had the great pleasure of visiting Joanna at her London home recently where we discussed our many exciting and ambitious plans for the year and how she may become involved. She demonstrated great passion and enthusiasm for wildlife and is sure to be a great ambassador for the Trust in 2008.”

Joanna Lumley, who lived in Kent for many years, said: “I am proud and delighted to support Kent Wildlife Trust as its patron in this its 50th year.

“The progress and achievements the Trust has made over the years are hugely impressive; but now more than ever, with increasing threats to this beautiful county, we need to lend our support to this most deserving cause and help protect Kent's precious wildlife.”

Joanna made her stage debut at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury in 1972 and is also an honorary University of Kent Graduate. She is well known for her roles in TV’s The New Avengers, Sapphire and Steel, Girl Friday and, more recently, Absolutely Fabulous.
