In what was the UK's biggest ever demonstration of public support for strong action on climate change - 'The Wave' took place just ahead of environmental ministers and officials meeting in Copenhagen for the United Nations climate conference to work out a successor to the Kyoto protocal.
Kent Wildlife Trust's Head of Conservation, Richard Moyse, said: "Climate change is the sinle biggest threat to Kent's wildlife. We need to send a message to our government that a deal at Copenhagen is essential if we want to keep our beautiful beaches, our gorgeous bluebell woods, and all the wonderful wildlife for which Kent is loved and enjoyed."
The family friendly event encouraged people to wear blue clothing and carry blue fabric and banners to create a human wave that flowed from Grosvenor Square to Westminster and finally encircling Parliament.
The Stop Climate Chaos Coalition's aim is to deliver three key campaign messages to the UK Government:
-
Act Fair & Fast: Deliver a fair global deal in Copenhagen that keeps global warming under two degrees C.
-
Quit Dirty Coal: End our reliance on dirty coal power, and instead boost the UK's renewable energy supply to help build a green economy and create new jobs.
-
Protect the Poorest: Provide resources to help the world's poorest and most vunerable people to adapt to climate change.
