Bough Beech theft
Bird feeders and food estimated to be worth £120 have been stolen from the orchard at Kent Wildlife Trust’s Bough Beech nature reserve near Edenbridge. The food supply store was also damaged when it was forced open a few days ago.
Fortunately, a kindly and quick-thinking wildlife photographer stepped in and issued an SOS through his local bird forum which has resulted in three new feeders and a generous supply of food being donated.
Dave Hutton, West Kent Reserves Officer for Kent Wildlife Trust, said: “This was a petty and pointless criminal act which could have deprived the likes of finches, tits and woodpeckers of vital winter sustenance.
“The Bough Beech visitor centre, reserve and reservoir attract thousands of bird watchers, even in the depths of winter – so we would urge anyone who has seen, or may see, any suspicious activities to report them to the police.”
